Dreambert and Bedsmith, two creatures of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning unable to remember who they are, where they are, or how they arrived. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar city, feeling lost and confused. Just as panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears and claims to be their father. He suspects they passed out while watching TV the night before, but before he can explain further, the situation becomes even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Goblin species, arrives and insists that she is a friend of theirs. She says they had planned to do something together, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Hesitantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the city, pretending not to recognize the surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As she shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to calm them down. However, Dreambert and Bedsmith remain disoriented, unable to understand their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day goes on, Starlow becomes more and more worried. At first, he thinks they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, she begins to worry that there is something wrong with her memory. By the end of the day, Starlow’s insecurity grows and she wonders if there is more to her forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house they woke up in, and Wonky – still claiming to be their father – provides them with a bed that feels unfamiliar. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they fall asleep, they deal with questions about their identity, their past, and the reason for their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories remains unanswered as they slip into a fitful sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
